K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit

The K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Edition is a free collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.

The K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Edition contains a couple of 64-bit DirectShow filters. These filters can be used to play the most common types of video files in 64-bit media players. This 64-bit Edition works on the 64-bit Editions of Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and 7.

64-bit applications can only use 64-bit codecs and filters and 32-bit applications can only use 32-bit codecs and filters, so this 64-bit Edition can only be used together with 64-bit media players. At the moment only a few of those exist, an example is Windows Vista Media Center. Most players are still 32-bit. Even the 64-bit Editions of Windows still use a 32-bit version of Windows Media Player by default. For 32-bit players you should use the normal K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack. You can have both this 64-bit Edition and the normal 32-bit K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack installed at the same time. Both will function independently from each other.

  • ffdshow:
    • ffdshow revision 3512 - ffdshow is a very powerful DirectShow filter that can decode many audio and video formats. It also contains lots of options for manipulation of the audio and video, such as resizing and post-processing. Examples of supported video formats are: DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, VC-1, MPEG-2, FLV1, FLV4, VP3, VP6 and MJPEG. Examples of supported audio formats are: MP3, AAC, AC3, DTS, LPCM, Dolby TrueHD/MLP, E-AC3, Vorbis, MP1, MP2, Nellymoser and IMA ADPCM.

    • WebM VP8 0.9.7.0 - For decoding VP8 video.
  • DirectShow source filters:
    • AVI splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.10.175.0 - For parsing the AVI container (.avi files).
    • MP4/3GP/MOV splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.10.175.0
    • MP4/3GP/MOV splitter (Gabest) 1.3.2116.0 - For parsing the MP4/3GP/MOV containers (.mp4 .3gp .mov .hdmov files).
    • Matroska splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.10.175.0
    • Matroska splitter (Gabest) 1.3.2116.0 - For parsing the Matroska container (.mkv .mka files).
    • Haali also supports the WEBM format (.webm files).
    • Ogg splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.10.175.0 - For parsing the Ogg container (.ogm .ogg files).
    • MPEG-PS/TS splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.10.175.0
    • MPEG-PS/TS splitter (Gabest) 1.3.2116.0 - For parsing the MPEG-PS container (.mpeg .mpg .m1v .m2v files) and the MPEG-TS container (.ts .m2ts .m2t .mts files). The Haali MPEG-PS splitter also supports .evo files, but it does not always work properly for regular MPEG files.

    • CDXA Reader (Gabest) 1.3.2116.0 - For reading VCD, SVCD and XCD discs.
  • DirectShow audio decoding filters:

  • DirectShow subtitle filter:

Your subtitle file(s) should have the same filename as your video file (for example: MovieName.avi + MovieName.idx + MovieName.sub) and should be in the same folder as your video file. Then the subtitles will automatically be displayed in most players.

    • Haali Video Renderer 1.10.175.0 - Excellent video renderer that can be used as an alternative for the video renderers that Windows offers. Requires a modern graphics card with PixelShader 1.4 or higher.
  • Tools:
    • K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool 4.4.5 - With this multi-functional tool you can do many useful things. It can detect and fix some common problems. It can generate a detailed list of all installed codecs and filters. It can reset settings for the codecs from the pack. It can backup and restore your setting. It allows you to manage the installed codecs and filters.
    • Win7DSFilterTweaker 3.2 - Allows setting third party decoders as the preferred filters in Windows 7.
    • GraphStudio 0.3.2.0 - GraphStudio is a tool for constructing and analyzing DirectShow filter graphs.
